L'animale che dunque sono - Exibition

Centro Culturale Claudio Trevi in Bolzano is hosting the exhibition The Animal That Therefore I Am by Czech artist Jana Kasalová, curated by Miroslava Hájek and produced by Spazio5 Contemporary Cluster, as part of Bolzano Art Weeks 2026 and the celebrations marking the twentieth anniversary of Studio Openspace / Spazio5 Contemporary Cluster.

The exhibition presents a research developed since 2007, through photographic and performative works dedicated to the theme of animality and the relationship between human beings and animals. The title draws on philosopher Jacques Derrida, who challenges the Cartesian principle "I think, therefore I am", proposing a different reading: "The animal that therefore I am." In Kasalová's work, the animal is not a separate or subordinate presence, but a site of confrontation and mutual recognition — a dimension deeply intertwined with human existence.
