Reactivating Franco Vaccari's Sogni n.1

Bolzano/Bozen, Bolzano/Bozen and environs

Museion Bolzano reactivates Franco Vaccari's Sogni n.1 with a participatory overnight event conceived by Emilio Fantin. 4–5.09.2026.

from center
In 1975, Franco Vaccari invited the public to spend a night inside his Exhibition in Real Time No. 10, Sogni n.1: upon waking, the participants' dreams were transcribed onto graph paper and became part of the artwork. These dream accounts are currently on view in the exhibition Feedback. The Environments of Franco Vaccari at Museion.

Fifty years later, Museion reactivates this historic experience with a new participatory overnight event conceived by Emilio Fantin – an artist who worked closely with Vaccari for many years and whose practice has long explored the relationship between sleep, dreams and imagination.

The evening begins with a workshop inspired by Vaccari's concept of the "technological unconscious". Through a series of drawings created especially for the occasion by Fantin, participants are guided through a meditation accompanying the transition from wakefulness to sleep, allowing images, intuitions and visions to emerge. The night continues inside the exhibition space, transforming the museum into a place to inhabit beyond its opening hours.

In the morning, dreams are transcribed onto graph paper, echoing Vaccari's original gesture. After breakfast at Museion Café, the workshop continues with a shared reflection on the images that emerged during meditation and sleep. These new dream accounts will become part of the exhibition, expanding the work through the experiences of those taking part today.
