This African American gospel group authentically brings the original atmosphere of Black gospel culture to the stage. From Mahalia Jackson to James Cleveland, the ensemble presents the history of gospel music in a two-hour program. With outstanding singers, soloists, and live musicians, the audience experiences pure emotion, spirituality, and joy of life. What Characterizes Gospel:
A typical feature of gospel music is the alternating singing between soloist and choir, the so-called “call and response.” Other defining characteristics include its African roots: pentatonic scales, later expanded to the heptatonic scale and the use of “blue notes,” as well as its distinctive vocal coloring (timbre). The result is highly expressive sounds, ranging from raw and powerful to soft and gentle.
