Gassltörggelen – culinary delights in the streets of Chiusa/Klausen

Klausen/Chiusa, Brixen/Bressanone and environs

When autumn begins in the southern Valle Isarco/Eisacktal, it starts also the so-called Törggele-season. Chiusa/Klausen celebrates the beginning of this ancient tradition with a big festival.

From 18th September to 20th September, the artist's city Chiusa dedicates itself entirely to the traditions of the "Törggelen" and transforms itself into some kind of outdoor tavern.

Through the streets of the town, gastronomic stands offer various South Tyrolean specialties, such as Knödel, Schlutzkrapfen, sausages with sauerkraut (fermented cabbage), doughnuts, Strauben and roasted chestnuts.

A rich selection of white wines from the Valle Isarco completes the culinary offer. The festival has also a colourful entertainment program and a lot of popular music.

    Everything you need to know

    By car:
    You can reach Klausen (Chiusa) from Munich in about 2.5 hours. Take the Rosenheim–Kufstein–Brenner motorway, then continue on the A22 Brenner Motorway (toll road) to the Klausen–Gröden/Val Gardena exit, or travel from Innsbruck via the Brenner Pass on the main road. Once you leave the motorway, Klausen is just 2 km away.

    By train:
    Klausen’s centrally located railway station is served by all regional trains and by some IC and EC services.

    By bus:
    Get off at the St. Josef or Frag stops on the main road, or at the Klausen bus station.
