Antonín Dvořák: Stabat Mater

Brixen/Bressanone, Brixen/Bressanone and environs

Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento, South Tyrolean Vocal Ensemble & Gürzenich Choir Cologne

from center
Antonín Dvorák's impressive Stabat Mater for soloists, choir and orchestra is probably the best-known of the Bohemian composer's sacred works. Dvorák's own painful experiences with the loss of three children are likely to have prompted his preoccupation with the suffering of the Mother of God under the cross of her son. The work is one of the most moving and successful sacred works in music. Performers in the cathedral are the Haydn Orchestra, the South Tyrolean Vocal Ensemble, the Gürzenich Choir Cologne and four South Tyrolean vocal soloists. Stefanie Steger, soprano - Anna Lucia Nardi, alto Roman Pichler, tenor - Michael Feichter, bass Südtiroler Vokalensemble & Gürzenich Choir Cologne Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento Christian Jeub, conductor Antonín Dvořák: Stabat Mater for soloists, choir and orchestra, op. 58
