German Brass owes its success to its sound. As a pioneer amongst brass ensembles, German Brass has not only made music history since its foundation in 1974, but continues to build on its success story. The ten solo brass players and university professors are distinguished by their uncompromising commitment to creating their ensemble’s distinctive sound, rediscovering and reinventing it anew in every concert and every recording. Sound is celebrated by German Brass – and thus becomes an experience for the audience. Ever since the celebrations honouring Johann Sebastian Bach – the musical inspiration behind the legendary German Brass sound – led to the definitive line-up of ten brass players in 1984, German Brass has performed in this formation. Brass chamber music has long since become an established and integral part of concert life, both nationally and internationally, and German Brass has lived up to its reputation as a pioneer throughout all these decades. The arrangements by Mathias Höfs and Alexander Erbrich-Crawford, tailored specifically to the artistic and technical excellence of the ensemble members, have long since become classics in the brass repertoire.
