This exhibition provides an in-depth look at the artistic practice of Evelyn Taocheng Wang and marks her first institutional solo show in Italy. Presented at Museion, it brings together works spanning painting, writing, installation, performance, and fashion.
Based in Rotterdam, the artist has developed a visual language that blends poetic, humorous, and critical elements. By combining art historical references, personal memory, and autofiction, she questions ideas of authenticity and explores how culture is represented and embodied.
For this exhibition, Wang has created new works inspired by her impressions of Bolzano, incorporating local visual elements into her practice. Her works address themes such as migration, cultural assimilation, gender expression, and social belonging.
Key bodies of work include reinterpretations of historical artistic models, pieces on textiles and garments, and narrative elements drawn from fairy tales. The exhibition transforms the space into a layered “landscape” where inner and outer perspectives intersect.
The notion of landscape becomes a starting point for reflecting on cultural and philosophical perspectives, inviting viewers to engage with multiple layers of meaning.
