from center
Monasteries are becoming increasingly empty, and yet the longing for their peace and spiritual depth continues to grow. Life in seclusion, however, is also changing. In sixteen reports, author Helmut Luther offers authentic insights from behind monastery walls: he meets a Benedictine monk who practices karate, a former soldier engaged in interreligious dialogue, and a young Elizabethan sister who runs a podcast. Between silence, work, and prayer, we encounter people who have found a special kind of freedom and happiness in monastic life. Helmut Luther: Born in Merano in 1961, he studied philosophy and history in Innsbruck. His historical research and travels have taken him all over the world. He has published numerous travel reports in Die Zeit, FAZ, Die Welt, Süddeutsche Zeitung, and other publications.
