    The building was registered in the late 19th century as "house with courtyard and tavern". The restaurant business has always characterised the historic building which as early as 1786 proposed itself as an inn and retailer of traditional South Tyrolean cuisine. We can say that Casa al Torchio is the oldest restaurant in Bolzano. The restaurant offers today typical South Tyrolean cuisine and Italian gastronomic specialties created by the owners Ivan and Willy Waldner. Each dish is expertly structured to respect tradition with a touch of creativity and imagination. The restaurant has a capacity of about 90 seats, divided into 3 characteristic rooms on the 1st floor and 50 seats on the 2nd floor. In addition to lunch and dinner, you can also enjoy a good pizza. A selection of wines from the best local and national wineries and a selection of craft beers can accompany your dishes.

    The starting idea of La Smorfia, a project launched back in 2014, was to take a good pizza to Merano. Our mission is to use one of the most popular courses of Italian tradition to spread products, flavours and recepies through iconic Mediterraneancuisine plates. We have been so successful in doing this that the project evolved in 2021 into "The South in Tyrol", an improvement of our offer which enabled us to pair our food choice with the national enological richness. Throughout this constant growing process we got to La Smorfia Experience, a room dedicated to a more rational culinary approach, a whole access to food and wines from our cellar. The renowned international guide Falstaff awarded us in 2022 as the best pizzeria in South Tyrol.

    The name Mauriz was already mentioned in 1752 in a sales agreement. At that time, the Mauriz was used as a stable of the inn Morizen “Mauriz”, which belonged to the Sanoner family. Josef Anton Sanoner emigrated to France and came back only at the beginning of 1810. He bought the whole estate and called the inn “Adler”. In 1903 Johann Babtist Sanoner enlarged the inn and added walls to the wooden building. In the stable, which had beautiful cross vaults, there were many horses, which were used by the guests for riding tours and for coach tours. In 1985 a part of the wooden scaffolding of the interior construction and the old cross vaults, under which you are sitting now, were saved from demolition. The old wood was used for the interior decoration of the disco “Mauriz”. We have rented the building in 2003 and, with a lot of effort and particular attention to detail, have turned it into the restaurant and pizzeria Maurizkeller. We hope you are enjoying your stay with us.
