Valle Isarco/Eisacktal

This valley to the south of the Brennero/Brenner pass takes its name from the Isarco/Eisack, South Tyrol’s second longest river.

S. Maddalena in Val di Funes/Villnösser Tal with the Odle/Geisler

As long ago as the Middle Ages emperors, merchants and pilgrims stopped here to revive before facing the strenuous journey south. The valley’s three small towns Vipiteno/Sterzing, Bressanone/Brixen and Chiusa/Klausen grew up in this period and today beckon with elegant shops, cultural treasures and cafes. Above all grapevines, apples and sweet chestnuts flourish on the steep slopes and in the valley floor, and all are savoured during the autumn tradition of “Törggelen” which originated in the Valle Isarco.
