Holiday area Alpe di Siusi/Seiser Alm

365 Alpine pastures, huts and mountain farmsteads scattered over an area the size of 8,000 football pitches: the Alpe di Siusi/Seiser Alm is Europe’s vastest expanse of high Alpine pastureland and a giant open air arena for young and old.

The villages belonging to the area, Castelrotto/Kastelruth, Siusi/Seis and Fiè/Völs – all just a 30-minute drive from Bolzano/Bozen and Bressanone/Brixen – are characterised by the predominantly pastoral cultivated landscape. Indeed twice as many mountain farmers as hoteliers or restaurateurs combined still live in the area. The local people’s commitment to their home region is evident in everyday life and at traditional events such as the annual Oswald von Wolkenstein equestrian contest and the rural wedding pageant.
