Opened last museum of Reinhold Messner

The fifth and final museum in Reinhold Messner‘s mountain museum project has been opened on July 3rd.
The world-famous mountaineer has named it the Messner Mountain Museum Ripa.
It is accommodated in Brunico/Bruneck Castle in the Val Pusteria/Pustertal and dedicated to the world’s mountain folk.

The name Ripa derives from the Himalayas: Ri means mountain and Pa stands for human.
Items of everyday use on display in the museum give us insight into the life and culture of people such as Sherpas, Mongolians, Tibetans, even the people in Valais.
The interactive museum is intended to become a meeting place for mountain people of differing cultures where they can exchange opinions and experiences on the subjects of nature, religion, tradition and tourism and to support mountain folk in their endeavours. Projects lasting several weeks are planned with participants from various mountain regions.

Alongside Ripa three further museums are located in South Tyrol and a fourth in Veneto.
The Firmian, Juval and Ripa museums are integrated into historical buildings and contribute to maintaining them in good condition.
Ortles and Dolomites on the other hand represent a new kind of Alpine architecture which is highly regarded internationally.

There is a MMM tour-ticket which allows you to visit all the five museums of Reinhold Messner.
